Horizon 2020: SME Instrument - Phase1 [SME-1]

Deadline: 5 Sep. 2019 and 6 Nov. 2019

Are you an innovative, high-flying small or medium-sized business with European and global ambitions? Phase 1 funding is a lump sum of €50,000.

Invention for Innovation Connect: Call 3 (NIHR)

Deadline: 11 Sep. 2019

Applications are invited from small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in need of a funding boost to reach the next stage in the development of their medical device. Funding of between £50,000-£150,000 is on offer.


Deadlines: 12 Sep.2019, 13 Feb. 2020, 3 Sep. 2020 (twice a year)

UK SMEs can apply for a share of up to £2.5 million to collaborate in research with partners across Europe and associated countries.

EIC Horizon Prize for 'Affordable High-Tech for Humanitarian Aid'

Deadline: 15 Sep. 2019

SME instrument (grant only and blended finance) [SME-2b] (H2020)

Deadline: 9 Oct. 2019, 8 Jan. 2020, 18 Mar. 2020, 19 May 2020, 7 Oct. 2020

Smart Grants (Innovate UK)

Deadline: 16 Oct. 2019

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, will invest up to £25 million in the best game-changing, innovative or disruptive ideas with a view to commercialisation. All proposals must be business focussed.

Biomedical Catalyst: Development Pathway Funding Scheme (DPFS)

Deadline: 27 Nov. 2019

DPFS supports the translation of fundamental discoveries toward benefits to human health. It funds the pre-clinical development and early clinical testing of novel therapeutics, devices and diagnostics.

Invention for Innovation Product Development Awards: Call 19 (NIHR)

Deadline: 11 Dec. 2019

i4i Product Development Awards (PDA) support innovations at any stage of the translational research and development pathway, including the clinical development of laboratory-validated technologies or interventions. Research proposals must come from any combination of an NHS Trust, higher education institution or small to medium-sized enterprise. There is no upper funding limit but costs must be fully justified.

Innovator Awards (Wellcome trust)

Deadline: Any time

These awards support researchers who are transforming great ideas into healthcare innovations that could have a significant impact on human health. Awards of up to £500,000, or up to £750,000 for multidisciplinary collaborations are available.

NHS Innovation Accelerator

Deadline: 23 Oct. 2019

The NHS Innovation Accelerator, or NIA, supports uptake and spread of proven, impactful innovations across England's NHS. Applications are invited from individuals representing high impact, evidence-based innovations, sourced nationally and internationally, which address one or more of the commitments laid out in the NHS Long Term Plan.
