DPFS supports the translation of fundamental discoveries toward benefits to human health. It funds the pre-clinical development and early clinical testing of novel therapeutics, devices and diagnostics.

i4i Product Development Awards (PDA) support innovations at any stage of the translational research and development pathway, including the clinical development of laboratory-validated technologies or interventions. Research proposals must come from any combination of an NHS Trust, higher education institution or small to medium-sized enterprise. There is no upper funding limit but costs must be fully justified.

These awards support researchers who are transforming great ideas into healthcare innovations that could have a significant impact on human health. Awards of up to £500,000, or up to £750,000 for multidisciplinary collaborations are available.

The NHS Innovation Accelerator, or NIA, supports uptake and spread of proven, impactful innovations across England's NHS. Applications are invited from individuals representing high impact, evidence-based innovations, sourced nationally and internationally, which address one or more of the commitments laid out in the NHS Long Term Plan.
